Crowne Plaza Will Be In Vilamoura In The Algarve

The Crowne Plaza Vilamoura, set to open in January 2010, will be the first Crowne Plaza hotel in Portugal.  The historic deal is the first franchise agreement between IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) and the Grupo Marope, a Portuguese property and hotel owning company.  The hotel will create more than 200 jobs when it opens. The new hotel is right on the Vilamoura beach, near the world famous Vilamoura Casino, 300 metres from the Algarve’s main marina, Marina Vilamoura, and 20 kilometres from Faro Airport.

Don Sebastião Restaurant in Lagos, Algarve

A recent peregrination brought me to the harbor of Lagos in the Algarve region of southern Portugal. Seabird calls—sharp cackling Herring Gulls, piercing shrills of Common Terns and the deep cacophony of Great Black-Back Gulls—mingled with seaside scents and vistas along the shoreline. Sensory stimulus is the first impression of this historic coastal town of 18,000. The shore setting is an essential ingredient of the towns past and present as a source of food and point of embarkation.

2010 WTCC in the Algarve

Zolder and the Algarve circuit have been added to the World Touring Car Championship's calendar for the 2010 season. The race at Zolder will take Pau's place on the calendar after the French street circuit was unable to confirm its deal with the WTCC in time, while the new Algarve circuit is introduced with the possibility of alternating with Porto, which is only able to host a race every two years.

<h5>Charismatic Algarve artist inaugurates own gallery</h5>
David Haines, one of the Algarve’s most enigmatic artists, has opened his own gallery in the arty, historic quarters of Loulé. His straw hat is now as recognisable as his art work as David Haines reaches a goal in his career. In his first interview nearly five years ago the outspoken artist jokingly told The Portugal News that he wanted to be famous in Portugal within a few years. A short time later he had indeed carved out a following of clients that resulted in commissions being exported all over the world, recently culminating in his own gallery in one of Loulé’s most desirable quarters.

Portugal properties 'more affordable now'

<h5>Portugal properties 'more affordable now'</h5>
Properties in Portugal have become a lot more affordable for Britons, a new survey has found. Research by money exchange firm Currency Index indicated that a combination of factors have made buying in such countries less expensive, with prices, mortgage costs and exchange rates all increasingly favourable, the Press and Journal reports. The Algarve cost have seen the largest improvements in affordability, with price drops of up to 30 per cent for two-bedroom apartments.
