The pigeons in the Algarve capital should watch out for the city’s latest resident: the fastest bird of prey in the world, with a diving speed which can reach up to 300 kph. It is still not known if the bird is here to stay or if it is just stopping off on its journey in order to have a good feed. In recent days, a peregrine falcon (falco peregrinus), has been sighted in Faro, a medium-sized bird of prey, which is not common in this part of the world.

The airline Sterling is flying to Scandinavia for less than 30 euros. But only between midday and 1 o’clock. Sterling, a Danish low-cost airline, has cut price tickets on sale to Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Sterling is offering flights to cities such as Copenhagen, Aalborg, Oslo, Stockholm and Gothenburg starting at 27 euros (one way) excluding airport taxes. Departures are from Faro airport.

Details of Portugal’s first ever six star hotel have been revealed following the government decision to allow construction of the luxury development to go ahead. Plans for the creation of a luxury hotel and apartment complex in Quinta do Lago were approved in Lisbon on January 18, by the Council of Ministers, who consented for construction to begin by September of this year.

A specialist from the Museu d'Orsay in Paris has confirmed that the drawing in the Faro Municipal Museum thought to be by Paul Gauguin (1848-1903) is genuine, and it will be put on display again in May. The director of the Faro Municipal Museum told the Lusa agency that it is a charcoal drawing 24.8 centimetres high and 29.5 centimetres wide.

The “unblocking” of the tourism project “Conrad, Palácio de Valverde, Resort & Spa” is regarded as an “example to follow” by the executive committee of the Algarve Tourism Board (RTA).
