The Portuguese Algarve is currently celebrating the news of a global investment of 1.5 Billion Euros as 10 new hotels are planned to be built. Eight of the ten hotels will be premier 5 star hotels with the first scheduled to be open as soon as 2009. Portugal Prime Minister Jose Socrates anticipated that some 6,000 new jobs would be created and as a result of this, accommodation on the Algarve would grow by some 5,400 beds. |

In the first six months of this year alone, close to 90,000 passengers used Portuguese Railways’ (CP) Alfa Pendular service, 6,000 more than in the same period last year, the Algarve Observer has learned from a source at the railway company. As far as the Intercity (IC) service is concerned, a fall of 12,000 passengers was recorded, from 186,000 to 174,000. |

Tourism chiefs are hoping that the arrival of some of the top names in international golf to the Algarve this October will boost visitor numbers. The Portugal Masters tournament in the pretty resort of Vilamoura will boost the Algarve's golf tourism growth strategy by turning the attention of golf fans towards the region.
With prize money totalling €3 million (£2 million) up for grabs, Portugal will be in an excellent position to push the Algarve as one of the world's best golfing destinations between October 18th and 21st when the contest takes place.

Property investment analyst has recommends Algarve investors should concentrate on the Silver Coast. Nicholas Marr, chief executive officer of international property portal Homesgofast.com, has said that house prices in the Silver Coast area of the Algarve are already rising more rapidly than anywhere else in the area. And he has predicted that this growth will accelerate in the future as the area reaps the benefits of Beja airport becoming operational in 2008. |
