The charm of Archie Shepp comes wholly from Africa.

Bringing with it the tradition of Afro-American music and revitalising it in a way that only someone who was born in that historical context could do. Archie Shepp represents a dual awareness, musical and political, which always defined the aesthetic options seen throughout his career: the intensive musical style of his Free Jazz period, his immersion in Blues, his love affair with Rhythm ‘N Blues, the passion he reserves for his ballads, and his frequent excursions through Bop.
