Charismatic Algarve artist inaugurates own gallery |
David Haines, one of the Algarve’s most enigmatic artists, has opened his own gallery in the arty, historic quarters of Loulé. His straw hat is now as recognisable as his art work as David Haines reaches a goal in his career. In his first interview nearly five years ago the outspoken artist jokingly told The Portugal News that he wanted to be famous in Portugal within a few years. A short time later he had indeed carved out a following of clients that resulted in commissions being exported all over the world, recently culminating in his own gallery in one of Loulé’s most desirable quarters. An artist since childhood, David initiated his career in Portugal by creating flawless reproductions of Van Gogh masterpieces that sold before the paint had dried. He then moved onto selling his own pieces in various styles that were equally as popular. Located in one of Loulé’s oldest buildings opposite the municipal gallery, David Haines’ gallery, which opened last weekend, showcases all his latest work. It is situated in the Square of D. Pedro 1st, a tourists’ gem with an archaeological dig, an old working ‘fonte’ and popular tea-room/gallery Cha d`Arte next door. Open weekdays from 10h00 – 17h00, (lunch 12h30 to 13h30) and Saturday from 10h00 to 14h00.
