 The 3rd International Art Fair takes place at the Congress Center do Arade near Lagoa from 4th to 6th of June. More than 80 artists from 15 countries exhibit and sell their own work. One of them will be awarded with the the art prize Prémio Arte Algarve. There is always an invited nation, and this year it is the Republic Cabo Verde. Seven well know painter from the Atlantic archipelago represent their country. The International Art Fair Haut Rhin is also present, while ARTE ALGARVE has a stand the partner fair in Alsace. |

 João Cutileiro, José de Guimarães and Günter Grass are but three of the 24 artists whose works can be seen at a group exhibition at the São Lourenço Cultural Centre in Almancil - Loulé. There is a rich, mouth-watering list of artists who will be participating in the 2009/2010 group exhibition.  After the great success of the first art fair ARTE ALGARVE in June, the next fair takes place from Sunday 29th of November until Tuesday 1st of December, again at EXPO ALGARVE Loulé, open daily from 15-22 o´clock. The 1st of December is a national holiday (“feriados”), which turns the 3 days into the ideal time for Christmas shopping, and also for buying art for the home. As many people in the Algarve have two homes – one here and one in the north of the country or abroad – they are especially keen on finding what they want, be it paintings, sculptures, photographs, ceramic or jewellery. |

 Lagos artists have set up MALA – an exhibition by Lagos artists, the 3rd biennial exhibition by artists who are resident in or originally from the city. 63 artists from the field of visual arts will be participating, along with 120 from music, theatre and dance, who will be giving 20 different shows. The aim of MALA is to stimulate activity in culture and tourism locally, according to the organisers. The event will run from 15th August to 15th October 2009 at different venues, namely the old City Hall building, the Municipal Information office, the Municipal Museum, the Fortaleza Ponta da Bandeira and the Lagos Cultural Centre. |

 David Haines, one of the Algarve’s most enigmatic artists, has opened his own gallery in the arty, historic quarters of Loulé. His straw hat is now as recognisable as his art work as David Haines reaches a goal in his career. In his first interview nearly five years ago the outspoken artist jokingly told The Portugal News that he wanted to be famous in Portugal within a few years. A short time later he had indeed carved out a following of clients that resulted in commissions being exported all over the world, recently culminating in his own gallery in one of Loulé’s most desirable quarters. |
