Lagoa, Silves, Portimão and Vila do Bispo all
had their applications approved by the Algarve regional development
commission, Comissão de Coordenação e Desenvolvimento Regional
(CCDR-Algarve). In total, the projects submitted involve a total
investment of almost 2.4 million euros, with 1.4 million euros being
financed by Europe through the regional operational programme Algarve
21 (PO Algarve 21).
One of the Lagoa projects aims to prioritise
pedestrian use of streets, with a general facelift in Carvoeiro (see
The Resident, April 18) to include new accessibility for disabled
people and more pavements. The investment is estimated at 131,000
euros, with 78,500 euros coming from EU funds.
In Silves, the
approved project will be in the Armação de Pêra parish, involving a
total investment of 1.4 million euros (see The Resident, February 15),
with the EU providing 841,000 euros.
The project approved for
Portimão, worth a total of 44,000 euros, aims to build a high
resolution map of the council’s coastline. The EU is funding 26,500
euros. Using its own staff and existing high resolution technology in
cartography and orthophotomaps, high quality satellite images of
specific locations, the Câmara hopes to create a reliable database for
GPS systems.
Vila do Bispo Câmara had two projects approved. One
relates to the improvement of safety along its cliffs. This has a total
budget of 36,840 euros and will receive 22,104 euros from the EU.
The
other project targets the historic centre of Salema parish, which will
see the fishermen’s road and the central square being refurbished. The
project’s investment is estimated at 757,000 euros, with 450,000 euros
provided by EU funds.
