 Celebrities and teams headed to Parque da Floresta Golf & Leisure Resort last weekend to take part in the Charity Golf Classic. The event was a tremendous success and thoroughly enjoyed by all the participants and spectators who attended, and more importantly managed to raise a spectacular £85,000 (and rising) for charity. This year it was held in aid of the Paul Southgate Research Fund. The fund was established in memory of Paul, a former president of Parque da Floresta, who sadly passed away in June 2008.

 Silves Castle is reopening following restoration work worth 1.5 million euros. The building work that began in 2003 involved the restoration and consolidation of the archaeological ruins, the conservation of the cistern, repair of the towers, reconstruction of the paving and the construction of infrastructure for water, electricity and drains. In addition to landscaping and external access routes, internal wooden walkways were built to enable visitors to walk around the archaeological ruins of the two Islamic palaces, and a garden with water circulation systems. |

 The Crowne Plaza Vilamoura, set to open in January 2010, will be the first Crowne Plaza hotel in Portugal. The historic deal is the first franchise agreement between IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) and the Grupo Marope, a Portuguese property and hotel owning company. The hotel will create more than 200 jobs when it opens. The new hotel is right on the Vilamoura beach, near the world famous Vilamoura Casino, 300 metres from the Algarve’s main marina, Marina Vilamoura, and 20 kilometres from Faro Airport.

 In what appears to be part of a shopping centre boom in the Algarve the Sonae Group has lent a significant financial boost to the eastern part of the region by inaugurating a €15 million shopping centre in Tavira that has directly created 273 jobs. Owned by Matifer and managed by the Sonae Group the Tavira Gran Plaza comprises four of the Group’s key base retail brands (Continente, Área Saúde, Bom Bocado and Book.It) as well as five specialist brands (Sport Zone, Worten, Worten Mobile, Modalfa and the Zippy Kidstore).
