Balloon crossing to touch down in Algarve |
|
People visiting the Portuguese town of Faro in the Algarve over the coming months will have the chance to take in one of the country's most impressive sporting spectacles. This year's event, which will take place between March and April, will mark the seventh outing of the Portuguese hot air balloon transcrossing.
Twenty-five teams from three continents are set to take part in the crossing this year, which will set off from Vila Pouca de Aguiar and finish in Loule in the Algarve, not far from Faro on the southern coast.
Along the way, the balloons will stop in Braga, Guimaraes, Porto, Santarem, Ribatejo and Estremoz.
Visitors to Faro and other hotspots in the Algarve will be best positioned to enjoy the event, however, as Loule traditionally hosts a party to celebrate the completion of the crossing.
Faro is the capital of the Algarve region and offers a number of experiences and sights to visitors, including the attractive old town area, which is surrounded by Roman walls dating back to the 9th century.
