Once again, former England goalkeeper David Seaman MBE, is teaming up with the Parque da Floresta Golf and Leisure Resort in the Western Algarve, for the seventh David Seaman Safe Hands Charity Golf Classic 2008, sponsored by Zurich International Solutions and HSBC Investments. The event, which will take place from July 10-13, following the UEFA European Football Championships, will see personalities from the world of sport and entertainment come together to grace the fairways of Parque da Floresta in aid of the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK.
Last year’s event raised over £150,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, whilst the funds raised for David’s chosen charities in the six-year history of the event have totalled in excess of £750,000. The four-day programme includes a two-day golf competition where 22 teams of three players plus a celebrity, compete on the magnificent Par 71, 5,712 metre Parque da Floresta golf course. The evening festivities include themed events each night and a gala dinner with prize presentation and charity auction on the Saturday night. Previous participants have included Arsenal goal scorer turned TV presenter Ian Wright, Manchester United’s Paul Scholes, current England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, ex-Arsenal and TV commentator Bob Wilson, ex-Spurs footballer and England Manager Glenn Hoddle, snooker legend Willie Thorne, Coronation Street favourites Bradley Walsh and Johnny Briggs, actors Max Beesley and Craig Fairbrass, TV presenters Ben Shephard and Anna Walker, former Olympic athlete Kriss Akabusi, and the world’s most capped rugby prop Jason Leonard, to name but a few. David Seaman comments, “We have supported this charity on two previous occasions – once in 2004 and again in 2006. This is not only because I have the greatest respect for Bobby Moore but also because my wife, Debbie, lost her mum to bowel cancer – the same disease from which Bobby tragically died. When he led the 1966 England team to World Cup victory he inspired so many people and after his death from bowel cancer, Bobby’s widow Stephanie asked Cancer Research UK to establish the Fund in tribute to him. The Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK raises money for research into bowel cancer and also public awareness of the disease.” David went on to say: “Parque da Floresta is the perfect venue for my Safe Hands Charity Golf Classic. It’s a great place to stay, the weather here is fantastic and the challenging course really separates the men from the boys!” With no two holes remotely similar the golf course at Parque da Floresta offers a challenge even for the most competent of golfer yet with a charm that tempts golfers back time after time. As one of the most picturesque golf courses in Europe, with spectacular panoramic views, the resort will make the perfect backdrop to such an illustrious event. Parque da Floresta Golf & Leisure Resort is set in the Western Algarve, amongst rolling hills, golden beaches, timeless fishing villages and unspoilt countryside. Bordering the Costa Vicentina National Park, luxurious villas and charming village houses surround the centrepiece of the resort – an imaginatively designed golf course. source: homes worldwide |
