Worlds Largest Sand Sculpture Event, FIESA 2006, open it’s doors to
public this saturday in Algarve, with this years theme Mythologies.
The 4th International Sand Sculptures Festival (FIESA 2006)
will start up from Saturday, May 20, at 18:00h, exhibiting thirty five
thousand tons of sand, sculpted in scenes and symbols of the universal
mythology. The festival locates in Pear, in Algarve, and it exhibits an integrated
group of sculptures in sand of great dimensions, in an area about
15.000 m2.
The city of sand began to be built in the beginning of April,
for a group of thirty three sculptors of several nationalities,
interpreted the sand, mythologies of Greek-Roman, Nordic, Celtic,
Egyptian and Indian, between other histories and symbolic illustrations
of the imaginary.
The most known myths and Greek gods are represented in sand,
as well as symbolic episodes of the Old and New Will. Another area is
dedicated to the Celtic and Nordic mythology, being followed myths
Assyrian, Egyptian, of India and of Africa. There is also have room in
this exhibition scenes of the Aztec mythology and, the great myth of
the future, the extra-terrestrial beings.
FIESA, organized by Prosandart, it is the only festival of
its kind in the Iberian Peninsula and, for the amount of sand used, it
is the largest exhibition of sand sculptures, on all over the world. In
their three previous editions the festival was visited for about 250
thousand people.
In the festival, there is also a place for sand sculpture
activities for public, where the children and the adults can show their
creative capacity and to learn the basics technichs of this way of
artistic expression.
FIESA can be visited everyday, between ten in the morning and
the midnight. During the day the sculptures can be admired with all
their detail and the night brings other atmosphere to the park of
sculptures, FIESA in the night, illuminated by color lights, and
special effects.
The opening the representatives' of the main algarvian
institutions presence is waited, it will be celebrated with a dance and
circus arts. Other activities, concerts, dances performances, will
elapse until September.
