The Luso-Canadian singer will take to the stage of the Albufeira Municipal Stadium on 27th July. Another major concert is also on the agenda. The president of the Albufeira Municipal Council told the Algarve Observer that the Nelly Furtado concert had already been organised some weeks ago. She will be coming back to the city where she performed at the 2004 New Year’s concert, an event that took place at the Praia dos Pescadores in front of thousands.

The daughter of emigrants from the Azores, the singer was born in Victoria in British Columbia, and has already been recognised as one of the top names on the international music scene.

The concert is not part of the package of events sponsored by the programme ‘Allgarve’, which is being organised by the government to raise the profile of Algarve tourism, but the Albufeira municipal leader has already had a meeting with the Minister of the Economy to request other events for his municipality.

He said that they had expressed their dissatisfaction at not being considered for the programme, and added that it had been practically agreed that they would have a concert with another top international artist and an orchestral event.

Dulce Pontes, Mickael Carreira, Katia Guerreiro, Rodrigo Leão and Rui Veloso are some of the other big names who have already been confirmed for Albufeira’s entertainment programme.
