One of the leading property developers and golf operators in Portugal, Oceanico Group, is set to pioneer a new event in a bid to develop the golfing heroes of tomorrow. Its inaugural Oceanico World Kids Golf championship will be staged in the Algarve from July 26-30. Having regularly welcomed stars from the European Tour to Oceânico's Victoria course for the Portugal Masters, it will host some of the world's best young golfers to compare their skills over three of Oceânico's superb championships courses - Oceânico Faldo, Oceânico O'Connor and Oceânico Pinhal.

Sanctioned by the Portuguese Golf Federation the tournament is open to boys and girls between the ages of seven and 16, with separate age group competitions. Those aged 10 years and over will compete over 18 holes each day, while kids under 10 years will play nine holes on each of the three courses.

An Oceanico spokesperson comments: "The idea is to create the feel of a professional Tour event with each player's gross score counting for their Championship total and prizes will be awarded for the first five competitors in each age and gender category.

"As the profile of the Oceânico World Kids Golf Championship grows, further venues from Oceânico's 'Magnificent Seven' across the Algarve region, can be utilised."
