Overseas Challenge proving popular

Places are being snapped up rapidly on the Examiner’s ever-popular Overseas Golf Challenge – which this year heads to Portugal. Lagos is the venue for the 16th annual running of the Challenge which takes place in November, and already more than 40 people have booked for the golfing holiday, which the winner of the Examiner Matchplay Tournament – now at the quarter-final stage – will be joining as their prize for winning the competition.

The final four golfers go into the finals day at Woodsome Hall, on Thursday, September 18 – with the semis in the morning and the final and third and fourth place play-off in the afternoon.

The week-long holiday, which departs Manchester on Thursday, November 6, comprises five days golf competition (three rounds for the main Challenge) plus a separate Team Stableford and a Fourball Stableford, all of which are staged at three difference courses.

Palmares, which is one of the most attractive course on the whole of the Algarve, hosts the Team Stableford on Friday, November 7 as well as the middle round of the Challenge, while Boa Vista, which contains spectacular scenery and views over the Atlantic Ocean from most holes, stages both the opening and final rounds of the 54-hole Challenge.

Morgado lays to the north of Portimao and is the newest course to open on the popular Algarve and will host the Fourball Stableford on Tuesday, November 11.

Accommodation is at the 4-star Hotel Tivoli Lagos, on a bed and breakfast basis, the hotel being on the outskirts of the town (all rooms balcony).

The flight is from Manchester with coach transfer from Huddersfield, Pudsey, Bradford and Leeds.

Also included are top prizes, along with a prize-giving dinner on return. Cost for a golfer is £679, non-golfer £399.

Anyone wishing to join the Examiner Overseas Challenge, either as a player or non-player, should contact Paul Hanson at Hanson Travel, 8 Lowtown, Pudsey. Telephone 0113 239 3300 to either make a booking or for further information.
