From July until the end of the summer, the old brewery the “Fábrica da Cerveja” in Faro is presenting a collection of contemporary art from the Fundação Serralves, an initiative by the local authority in partnership with the "Allgarve" programme. The exhibition "Livre Circulação/Toll Free: Serralves no Algarve" includes works by fine artists such as René Bertholo, João Penalva and Julião Sarmento, who use sculpture, video and film as media.
The exhibition of contemporary art, which is curatored by the director of the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Fundação de Serralves, João Fernandes, opens on 14th July and will be in Faro until 30th September.
In parallel, the Fundação Serralves is also bringing an exhibition of architecture to Faro entitled "Livre Circulação: Arquitectos Europeus em Trânsito", which brings together projects by Portuguese architects carried out abroad and by foreigners in Portugal.
The objective, according to a statement by the organisers, is to create a “new concept of summer tourism” encouraging people to occupy their spare time in different ways, with aspects linking the environment, architecture and art.
During the summer months, the city of Faro will be the stage for a number of cultural events, with concerts by the pianist Pedro Burmester on 22nd June and Eugénia Melo e Castro on 4th July at the Teatro das Figuras.
On 4th and 5th July the local authority is also organising the 1st “África Minha” Festival, at which the singer Tito Paris will be performing, and the presentation of the play "Miss daisy", with Eunice Muñoz at the Teatro das Figuras.
The 26th Faro Motorbike Rally, which will be held on 19th and 20th July, will be hosting the veteran Joe Cocker, Rui Veloso and bands such as Blasted Mechanism and Orishas.
