Work on the construction of the super special stage in the Algarve Stadium started on Monday. The investment is worth some 400,000 euros. On Monday, the company Tecnovia began work on the circuit in the Algarve Stadium where the first and last stages of the Rally of Portugal will take place on 29th March and 1st April.
The work involves building a circuit on the pitch in bituminous concrete which will enable the super special stage of the competition to be held there.
The track will be 2.03 kilometres long, and it will be contested by two cars at a time in front of a crowd estimated at about 20,000.
The super special stage will be the real “kick-off” of the event, on the Thursday (29th March), replacing the start which was at first scheduled to take place at the Vilamoura Marina, and it will be repeated on the Sunday (1st April), with the bonus of including the podium ceremony.
According to the director of Tecnovia, the surface is designed to withstand aggressive treatment from high powered vehicles.
Once the event at the Algarve Stadium is over, the construction company will replace the playing surface. In total, the two jobs involve an investment in the order of 400,000 euros, which will be met by sponsors associated with the organisation of the Rally of Portugal
