 Portugal’s oldest street carnival will be in full swing on 6, 7 and 8 March along central Loulé’s Avenida José da Costa Mealha with the theme ‘E Nós Por Cá’, a satirical look at Portuguese society, politics and the problems the country is currently facing.From 3pm each day, Loulé’s central avenue will be transformed with a parade of 14 floats, decorated with puppets of national politicians including former sea minister and popular party leader Paulo Portas and Prime Minister José Socrates. |

 For one month a year the Algarve is alive with the colours, sounds and life of the street Carnival. The Algarve Spring Carnival is a magical time of the year, as the streets of Loulé are flooded with costumes, Among the many highlights of this colorful festival is the Battle of the Flowers, and the parade including brightly-costumed dancers, decorated floats and paper-maché models. Besides the themed floats and cars, the Carnival festivities include “samba” groups, bands, dances and music. There is a real party atmosphere and it is one of the largest and most popular Carnival events in Portugal. |

 The EU is contributing almost one million euros towards the construction of a new sport and well being centre, which is due to be inaugurated near the Ria Formosa in Faro, this month. The project, which represents a total investment of around three million euros, received a declaration that it was of particular interest to the tourism industry, which led the EU to provide €800,000 towards its creation. Around €750,000 has been invested by a joint partnership between Parkalgar, which manages the Algarve Motor Park and Galp Energia to build a Photovoltaic Centre to produce electricity on site, that is now operational. The photovoltaic complex is linked to the national grid and is now producing energy. Occupying a 3,000 square metre space in the northern park of the Motor Park site, the complex has 504 200W monocrystlaine silica photovoltaic panels made by Efacec. |

Menus designed by chefs awarded with Michelin stars, chocolate workshops and other delicacies, are part of the 5th edition of the International Gourmet Festival "Tribute to Claudia", to be held in Albufeira during the upcoming week. Starting next Friday, January 14th, and lasting for 10 days, the festival will have its epicentre in the kitchen of the hotel Vila Joya, the only one in Portugal awarded with two Michelin Stars. |
