 Project Seahorse, a worldwide project to save this endangered marine animal is looking to create artificial habitat structures in the Ria Formosa national park, which is known to be home to one of the densest seahorse colonies in the world. The aim of this project, which is led by specialists from around the world, including Portugal, is to conserve seahorse populations. Loss of habitat due to dredging and the movement of boats is highlighted as the likely cause for the decline in seahorse populations in the Ria Formosa, which have reduced by 85 percent since 2000. |

 During November, Monte da Quinta resort in the Algarve region of Portugal will be hosting the R2P – Race to Portugal event. The participants will play two days of competitive golf at the famous Quinta do Lago Golf Club, against other qualifying clubs from Ireland and the UK. An exclusive number of Golf clubs from all over the UK and Ireland have been chosen by the resort to compete, and if they win at home, they will travel to sunny Portugal to compete on Monte da Quinta's luxury world class golf course. |

Aqua Portimão, a new shopping centre at Cardosas, near Portimão, is on track to open before Easter 2011 as planned. spokesman from the Bouygues Real Estate, the company behind the project, told the Algarve Resident: “It will be the largest centre in western Algarve, with 132 shops, including Primark and H&M, more than 20 restaurants and a Jumbo supermarket.” Primark is one of the UK’s top clothing chains and this will be its first store in the Algarve, covering 4,200 square metres and creating 250 jobs. |

The French first lady and the Queen Silvia of Sweden are appreciators of the gourmet olive oil Monterosa, produced by the von Rosen family in Moncarapacho (Olhão), which is sold directly in the press premises or online. The Monterosa company also has ornamental plants nurseries. This olive oil won’t be found in stores and even less in supermarkets. The von Rosen make a point on selling it "the old way" in the press, or by online orders. |
