Algarve: 350 million invested in clean energy |
A new demo park housing several of the latest green and renewable technologies will be installed in Monchique, near the Autódromo do Algarve. The main investor is foreign, but some national partners have joined the venture. Self Energy, a Portuguese corporation which provides energy consulting services, signed a contract with the Algarve Energy Park, for a project linked to the demonstration of solar technologies and renewable energies – a concept with global ambitions.Founded by the Dutch businessman Marc Rechter, the Algarve Energy Park is a model sustainable platform initiative, which will feature science demonstration projects, research, development and commercialization of services, a professional training centre and an educational theme-park. In a later phase, the project aims to create 2.000 new jobs. According to its founder, the energy park represents a unique concept in Europe, since it enhances the synergies between education and R&D processes. “We are very happy to welcome Self Energy as a strong partner and participant of the Solar DEMO Park of the Algarve Energy Park. We are very oriented for innovation, therefore we value alliances with companies who share the same drive and ambition” explains Marc Rechter, CEO of the Algarve Energy Park. The project includes the generation of solar and aeolic energy, a theme park to demonstrate the potential of clean renewable energies to the general public and a centre of sustainable energies system (SOLARLab), open to industries. A training centre is also planned, aside with a business centre and an investigation academy, to attract companies specialised in solar energy and other renewable/clean sources of energy. |
