Algarve hosts Gay and Lesbian Festival
Algarve Gay FestivalThe first gay and lesbian festival in Algarve welcomes everybody, and will be held at Fatacil on May 14 and 15. Next month, the Algarve will be stage of a new concept of event, potentially polemic: the first gay and lesbian festival in Portugal. The Allove festival will take place on Fatacil, Lagoa, on May 14 and 15, being the largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) festival to ever be held in Portugal. The producers are expecting 8 to 10.000 people per day in this event, which will enable visitors to enjoy a mixture of music,
fashion and entertainment with the central theme of the festival being sexual diversity and the celebration of spring.

Hugo Pereira, from the production, emphasises the importance of the LGBT segment for the tourism, particularly in the low seasons, where the players have more chance to get together.

Tarot reading, sexologists, palm readers, a red light zone, sex shops, piercing and tattoo shops can be visited at the Allove, along with a sale stock market, a gourmet space and a tourism friendly zone, where the hotels can promote their gay friendly programs.

The Allove Festival is sponsored by Lagoa Town hall and the Algarve Tourism Association, and counts with the participation of Abraço and MAPS, two associations that work in information campaigns and provide assistance to people with aids.
