First Algarve International Book Festival |
Between Thursday 16th and Sunday 19th September lovers of all forms of literature can join in this feast of the written word called Lit.ALGARVE. The languages spoken will be either English, Portuguese or German and many well known writers have already accepted invitations to travel to the Festival to do book signings, readings of their works, hold workshops and talk about their craft. The Festival is to be held throughout the Algarve from Tavira in the east and Aljezur to the west and some of the venues so far listed are: The Auditorium and surrounding square in Lagoa, Casa Manuel Texeira Gomes in Portimão, the Holiday Inn (Hotel Garbe) Armação de Pera, Quinta dos Vales Estombar, Hotel Hapimag Albufeira and the Museu São Brás de Alportel. Apart from this wonderful opportunity to browse amongst books and meet their authors, there will also be opportunities for audience participation in open debates, workshops and short story marathons. Have you ever written a poem? Then this is the opportunity to have it heard and even judged in a poetry slam – never heard of a poetry slam? Hugely entertaining this event gives poets a chance to perform their work live in front of an audience who will then judge works by the level of their applause. Various concerts, recitals and film viewing will accompany the Festival and many hotels and restaurants will be joining in the literary spirit by holding culinary evenings accompanied by authors reading entertaining stories or plays. Any writers, poets, publishers, or artists who feel they can enhance and further this gourmet celebration of the written word are invited to contact the organiser Barbara Fellgiebel at: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or visit the website: www.alfacultura.com As a taster to the main event in September the organisers have arranged for author, playwright and lecturer in screen writing, Marc Gee to give a talk about his latest novel ‘Autumn Kill’ at the Lagoa Convento de S.
