 What was once considered the end of the world, literally, and later a starting point for the Portuguese Discoveries, Sagres Fort has not received the treatment it deserves in recent times, being untouched for the past fifteen years. A new €8 million renovation project and the creation of an exhibition is currently taking place, expected to be completed by 2011. After three buildings located at the Sagres Fort were built in the 1990’s to attract tourism, the area has been completely untouched since, not receiving any maintenance or restoration work. |

Vilamoura is to undergo 1.3 million Euros worth of redevelopment works. The project will be carried out in three phases by Inframoura, the company responsible for the maintenance of the public spaces in Vilamoura, and starts after the summer so that it does not affect tourism activity. The first phase includes asphalt pavement work made from recycled tyres and the creation of a route for the visually impaired through the placement of a textual pavement system. This area will also be provided with new street furniture and modern lighting. |

The environmental association A Rocha is planning to launch an ecotourism business to show the Algarve and Alentejo natural beauties. Guillaume Réthoré, one of the volunteers involved in forming the company assumes that the goal is to start before the end of 2010, but they don’t have a concrete date yet. Guillaume, which is a Biologist, explains to the Algarve Observer that the main purpose is to ”show the many wonderful places which don’t have much touristic pressure”, with special emphasis on the bird watching activities”. |

 The seventh season of the European Poker Tour has commenced and will be coming to Vilamoura from August 28th to September 2nd. It is the second year running this renowned tournament is taking place in Vilamoura, attracting some of the best players in the world to compete for the massive prize money. The debut event in Vilamoura in 2009 had the biggest prize money ever in a Portuguese poker tournament, with a prize pool of €1.5m. |
