 Alberto Contador (Astana) has won the 2010 Tour of the Algarve in Portugal after placing second behind Luis Leon Sanchez (Caisse d'Epargne) in the race's final individual time trial stage on Sunday.Contador finished the stage 13 seconds adrift of Sanchez, but it was enough to give the 2009 Tour de France champion his second consecutive victory in the five-day Portuguese stage race. Contador's performance in the TT was all the more remarkable as the Spaniard's Specialized Shiv time trial bike had been judged illegal by the UCI. A replacement bike was drafted in at the eleventh hour. |

 The 36th edition of the Volta ao Algarve have already started in the Algarve region of southern Portugal. the five-day Volta ao Algarve's start list has been bolstered by a greater concentration of stage racing talent which previously had been split between Portugal and the United States. Twenty-three teams will contest the Volta ao Algarve including 11 ProTour, six Professional Continental and six Continental squads. The defending Volta ao Algarve champion, Alberto Contador, will kick off his 2010 season in Portugal. |

 Reigning Tour de France champion Alberto Contador confirmed on Friday he will kick off his 2010 season during the Tour of the Algarve cycling race in Portugal mid-February. "Last year I liked the race and I think it's ideal to start the season," explained the Spaniard, who is the reigning champion in the Portuguese race. "Then I'll go to the Paris-Nice (beginning of March) where we'll be mainly looking to work on a team level, notably on tactical coordination," he said. |

 The Africa Eco Race sets off from Portimão on 27th December. The philosophy of this off-road event is “sporting challenge but with human values as the priority”. René Metge said he thought that the Africa Eco Race was a race unlike any other and that this Marathon Rally Raid was offering competitors a chance to share in an adventure based on sporting challenge but with human values as the priority. The sporting director of the event was speaking in Portimão during the presentation of the competition in which the only confirmed Portuguese participant is the driver Elisabete Jacinto. |
