The Praia do Martinhal is located a few kms above Sagres in the far
southwest corner of the Algarve.
Dunes enclose this beach which only
offers restricted bathing opportunities due to the fact it is not
surrounded by protecting rocks and the steadily blowing wind being
quite rough. All the more popular the Praia do Martinhal is with
windsurfers; there is even a surfing school located here.
Praia do tonel
Situated to the west of Sagres Point, this small sandy beach is nestled
in a bay between interesting rocky outcrops. A beach for the playful,
it benefits from rolling Atlantic waves pushed in by western winds.
Take care when swimming as this is a very popular surfing beach.
The vicinity is picturesque and a good place to cool off on a drive to
Cape St Vincent. Rock pools keep the children busy and bar/restaurants
are within easy reach. Nearby Sagres is an exceptionally pretty harbour
town. There is limited car parking along a sandy track 50 metres away.
