Growth in hotel occupation rates in August |

The month of August continued to register increases in the hotel
occupation rates in the Algarve, a tendency which is verified since the
beginning of the year, according to details published by two of the
major Algarvian hotel associations.
The figures from the Association of Hotels and Touristic Resorts of the
Algarve (AHETA) indicate that the average/quarterly global occupation
rate was 93.3%, 5.8% more than in August 2005.
By geographic zones, the principal increases were registered
in Portimão/Praia da Rocha (17.5%), Lagos/Sagres (9.5%) and
Vilamoura/Quarteira/Quinta do Lago (6%). No decreases were registered.
According to the data published by the Association of Hotel
and Similar Industries of the Algarve (AIHSA), the average occupation
rate per quarter in Algarve accommodation was 90.03%, which represents
a growth of 3.90% in relation to the same month in 2005.
The five, four and three star hotels associated with AIHSA also registered increases in comparison with August last year.
